A trip to Portsmouth and Andy Pereira

I had an epic 11 hour trip to Portsmouth yesterday to visit Andy Pereira. I’ve known Andy for a good few years now and we became friends after he offered Zandie some YBs to race in 2020. He is a lovely and genuine man who I am glad to class as a good friend in the pigeon sport.

Unfortunately, Andy has had to make the hard decision to sell all of his stock birds as the workload is getting too much for him. He’s still keeping his amazing team of whites for his wedding dove release business though.

I had already done a deal with Andy for his best breeding pair, a stunning Dbl Grand Son of Star Boy and a class son of John Angwins New Young Kittel when paired to Chixi for my Pioneer Pigeons 2025 team, but after speaking to Andy a few days ago he told me the rest of the stock all had to go and ideally in one lot. We did and deal on over 30 pigeons and I went to get them yesterday. There are some seriously amazing pigeons in there, which Andy has spent the last 5 years putting together. It’s bittersweet for me to be honest, one one hand I have some great pigeons, but on the other, it’s hard seeing your mate shed a few tears after all the pigeons were basketed up and his stock loft was empty 🙁

As some of you may know my plans for Pioneer Pigeons next year are to focus on entering and competing the best I can in OLRs around the world and all the YBs produced will be going into Pioneer Syndicates. I will only be having 24 single breeding pens, a few spare cocks and some hens to change pairings around through the breeding season. I was upfront with Andy and told him I wouldn’t be keeping all the pigeons, I will have a few hens over and above when I had already planned and there is one cock called Birthday Boy who will be staying with me, but the rest will be sold (Although I’m sure Zandie may want an odd one! 🙂 ) I will be letting these pigeons settle in and then getting them photographed. There are some seriously class pigeons in this group, a group Andy has taken great pride in putting together.

Another big thanks to Andy for providing 10 pure whites for my ex wife Kates Dove Memories dove release business, these 5 pair will set her up to breed top quality pure whites for years to come.

Andy may not be keeping racing pigeons anymore, but I will make sure he keeps an interest in the sport by adding his pigeons into my Pioneer Pigeons stock team and let’s hope we see some top performances from them when they are crossed into the Zwols Pigeons, Maurice O’donnell and Snow Prince pigeons I am cultivating. As we all know there is no such thing as a “pure” racing pigeon and my goal is to cross the best of all the pigeons I have here to hopefully cultivate a Pioneer Pigeon that can score high up one OLR and who knows maybe one day win one, we can only hope 🙂

It’s exciting times going into 2025, I have a great stock team thanks to John Gladwin and John Cowlin of Zwols Pigeons Maurice O’donnell of O’Donnell Pigeonsl, the Snow Prince Pigeons and some more speed / sprint pigeons I have here. As I said all of the pigeons bred for OLRs will be available through Pioneer Syndicates, we will be having teams of Zwols Pigeons, Maurice O’Donnell pigeons and Pioneer Pigeons next year entered into the Premier UK OLR, The Algarve, Dubai, Pattaya and hopefully if all goes to plan the Hoosier in the USA thanks to us working with Isaac Chute.

Bring on 2025 and thanks again to Andy for the trust in me as a friend to look after and do the best I can for his stock team.
